What Is My Face Shape? Take the Quiz
The 8-question mirror quiz

What is my face shape?
Your face shape comes from a few proportions: how wide your forehead, cheekbones and jaw are, how long your face is compared with its width, and how your jaw and chin are shaped. Those proportions place you closest to one of seven shapes: oval, round, square, heart, diamond, oblong or triangle. The quiz below asks about those proportions one at a time. Prefer a photo? How the mirror quiz works
You only need a mirror. Pull your hair back, look straight ahead and keep your head level. Each question shows a simple outline: the red line is the part to look at, and the dashed line is what you compare it with.
Every answer adds points to the shapes it fits. After eight answers, the shape with the most support is your result. It takes about a minute, and you can go back and change any answer.

Reading your result
One clear shape
If one shape is clearly ahead, you see that shape and a link to its guide.
Between two shapes
Many faces sit between two shapes. When your top two are too close to separate, the result says "Between A and B": the first shape is your closer match, and the second is a close runner-up. Read both guides. The tips often overlap, and you can use whichever suits you. The photo detector uses the same rule.
It is an estimate
The quiz gives an estimate from eight answers, not a measurement. Lighting, posture and how you read each question can shift it. If a result feels off, retake the quiz, try the tape-measure method below or upload a photo to the detector.
How to measure your face shape with a tape measure
| Step | What to measure | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Forehead: widest point across | Usually halfway between brows and hairline |
| 2 | Cheekbones: outer point to outer point | Feel for the bone just below the outer corner of the eye |
| 3 | Jaw: angle to angle | Start below the ear where the jaw turns |
| 4 | Face length: hairline to chin | Use the center of the hairline |
Face shape chart: reading your numbers
| If… | You are likely |
|---|---|
| Length ≈ 1.5× cheekbone width, forehead a little wider than jaw, rounded jaw | Oval |
| Length ≈ width, widest at the cheeks, soft jaw | Round |
| Length ≈ width, forehead ≈ cheeks ≈ jaw, angular jaw | Square |
| Forehead widest, chin narrow or pointed | Heart |
| Cheekbones widest, forehead and jaw narrow, pointed chin | Diamond |
| Length clearly > 1.5× width, widths similar | Oblong |
| Jaw widest, forehead narrowest | Triangle |
Common mistakes
- Measuring with your hair down. Hair hides your hairline and jaw. Pull it all back.
- Round vs square confusion. Both are about as long as they are wide. If your jaw has a visible corner, you are square; if it curves, round.
- Oval vs oblong confusion. Oblong is clearly longer, with straighter sides.
- Tilting the camera. A phone held below the chin widens the jaw; held above, it widens the forehead.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know my face shape?
Measure your forehead, cheekbones, jaw and face length, then see which is widest and how length compares to width. Or upload a photo to the free detector and get the result in seconds.
What is the most common face shape?
Oval and round are the shapes people most often get, but there is no reliable global statistic. Many people are a blend of two shapes.
Is the face shape quiz accurate?
A careful tape-measure quiz is reliable for the main proportions. The most common errors are measuring with hair down and confusing a round face with a square one—check your jaw angle.
Can your face shape change?
Your bone structure is stable in adulthood, but weight change, aging and facial hair can change how your shape reads, so retake the quiz if your look changes.
Is there a face shape test for men?
Yes. The quiz works the same for men and women; men's results add beard and haircut suggestions.
