What does this symmetry test measure?

Faces are not perfectly identical on both sides, and that is normal. Our free tool identifies five pairs of points around your inner eye corners, eyebrows, cheekbones, jaw corners and mouth. It adjusts for the angle of the eye line, then compares the horizontal and vertical position of those paired points relative to the width of your face in the photo.

The result is an average paired-landmark offset, expressed as a percentage of cheekbone width. It is not an overall facial symmetry score, an attractiveness score, or a medical assessment. The individual point measurements are often more interesting than a single average. A value of 0% would mean the selected points mirror each other in this photograph, not that the underlying face is perfectly symmetrical.

Try the mirror comparison

After uploading a photo, switch between Original, Mirror left and Mirror right. The tool reflects the selected half of the photo across the approximate nose-bridge line. This creates two illustrative portraits from one image, highlighting why selfies can look different when flipped. You can hide the landmark guides and save the currently displayed image to your device.

Mirroring does not change your features or predict how anyone sees you in person. It is just a comparison of pixels from your photo. Face angle, perspective, the distance from the camera and facial expression all influence the result.

How to get a more consistent photo

  1. Choose a photo with one person, facing the camera straight on with a neutral expression.
  2. Keep your eyes approximately level. Avoid tilting or turning your head toward the lens.
  3. Use daylight from the front and avoid strong portrait filters and extreme wide-angle selfies.
  4. Take a second photo from roughly the same distance if you want to compare results.

We show a photo-position warning when the detected face looks too small, turned or tilted. These checks are approximate. Even when no warning appears, the landmarks can be imperfect, especially with shadows, glasses or hair covering facial features.

What happens to my photo?

The face model is loaded in your browser and performs this tool's measurements on your device. Your photo is not sent to YourFaceShape servers for this test. There is no account, and we do not retain these local calculations. The optional Save image button downloads a file to your device, under your control. For more details, read our measurement methodology and privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a beauty or attractiveness test?

No. It reports differences between a small set of detected landmark positions. Human appearance cannot be reduced to a symmetry percentage.

Why are my mirror-left and mirror-right images different?

They repeat different halves of your photograph. Pose, lighting and expression may make one half look different from the other; this is expected.

Can I compare two different people?

This tool works on one consenting person's photo at a time. The offsets are not validated for comparisons between different people or demographic groups.

Do I need to pay or upload a photo to a server?

No. This tool is free, with no sign-in. The browser downloads a face model, but the selected image is analyzed locally.
